We are very excited about the baupreis allgäu 2013, which our clients, the Geiger Family, and us have received for the Haus UMS
With the baupreis allgäu, which is given out every four years by the architekturforum allgäu,  exemplary buildings in the Bavarian and Baden-Württemberg region of the Allgäu are being recognized.
An independent , international jury, chaired by Prof. Tobias Wulf from Stuttgart chose from 102 submitted projects five awards and five recognitions.
A criterion for the award was “the intelligent use of the city and the countryside as well as the setting for the structural component and the appreciation of everyday tasks ” (Prof. Tobias Wulf , AZ November 11, 2013 ).
The jury confirmed with the award and with their judgment that the award-winning house UMS in Kempten meets these high standards of quality:

” The house UMS is an important contribution to the change of our town disctrics lying outside the well maintained old core town districts. Settler homes like these are quickly released for demolition. Their land, now within the city, have their value and in the brittle harshness of the substance very few can recognize a quality. Luckily, the Geiger family could see the potential of this home. Today the building is modest but equally present in the heterogeneous context. It tells of both its past and of its current use. This was helped by a number of decisions. A smart energy and economic upgrading of the house retains its physical feel, because there was no need for external insulation. The subtle changes to the window openings and the small additions like bay windows and patio entrance act as naturally as if they had always been there. On the inside, the architects have taken this same strategic approach of cautious changes. Not without humor they laid open the raw structure of the bars in the loft with unsafe departure. In this way the house UMS is a loving contribution for the transfer of an anonymous building typology into our time. “
